Used oil is regulated hazardous material. The collection route and records matter as much as the commercial rate.
1. Verify the buyer
TNPCB publishes information on registered used oil and waste oil recyclers. Check the current authorisation before handing over material.
2. Ask for the movement records
Confirm the applicable manifest, transport and commercial documents before pickup. Keep copies with your waste records.
3. Test the oil
Water, sediment and mixed contaminants affect recovery and the offered rate. A sample check helps both parties agree on the condition.
4. Store safely until pickup
Use sealed, labelled drums or tanks, prevent water entry and avoid mixing oil with solvents, coolant or unrelated wastes.
5. Keep a complete file
Retain the test result, manifest, invoice or payment record and the buyer's authorisation details for audit and inspection.
